Familiarization (FAM) Trips Bring in Big 2007/2008 Group Sales Potential to Telluride Ski Resort

ResortQuest plans to host Texas Ski Council next season and provide Telluride accommodations. Texas Ski Council represents 16 Texas based ski clubs with more than 5,000 member total.

Within the last 3 weeks, Telluride Ski Resort (Telski) hosted several Familiarization trips (or FAMS) for 2007/2008 potential groups. FAMS are intended to showcase the unique experience Telluride has to offer ski groups.

On March 22, nine trip leaders of ski clubs and groups from around the country visited for the weekend. In conjunction with Ski.com, Telluride's central reservations, these FAM trips consisted of the following; site inspections of group Telluride lodging properties around the area; touring the Telluride Conference Center; skiing the mountain; checking out the towns of Mountain Village and Telluride.

Over this past weekend, three more FAM trips were hosted. Two groups were brought in with tour operator and wholesale partners, and a third FAM was hosted by Rocky Mountain Connections, a destination management company. Two of the groups visiting over the weekend could potentially bring upwards of 1,300 people next December, prior to the holidays.

Sales teams from Telski, the Telluride Tourism Board and ResortQuest Telluride visited the Texas Ski Council Bid Fest and Conference, March 29th - April 1. Texas Ski Council represents 16 Texas based ski clubs with more than 5,000 member total. Telluride made the final cut and competed against four other resorts from around North America for the council's mid-winter trip. Telluride was awarded the Winter Shoot Out trip, February 2-9, 2008. This trip attracts upwards of 300 people and takes place during a time of year when the individual traveler numbers are low. This is a notable achievement as Telluride has not won a Texas Ski Council group in the last ten years.

A number of Telluride entities and businesses contribute to host such a sales event. Working together with the Telluride Tourism Board (Marketing Telluride, Inc.), Telluride Express, Telluride Sports and the group lodging partners Bear Creek Lodge, Elevation Vacations, Mountain Lodge at Telluride, The Peaks, ResortQuest Telluride vacation rentals and Telluride Mountain Lodging is crucial to the success of showcasing Telluride as the premier destination for groups. Restaurants, bars and shops, along with the community in general painted a picture of elegance with uniqueness reaching beyond just the geographic beauty of the Telluride. ResortQuest Telluride offers ideal group accommodations with condominiums and homes available in slopeside or ski-in ski-out locations.
