Peterson's to Publish Books in Environmentally Responsible Way
Leading college guide and test prep publisher switches to 100% recycled paper
Lawrenceville, NJ (Vocus/PRWEB ) January 7, 2009 -- Peterson's college guides, test prep books, and other college planning books line the shelves of bookstores, libraries, and schools around the country. As a leading education content provider in the United States, the company has begun a major initiative to drastically reduce its eco footprint by changing its printing practices--going forward, all of Peterson's books will be printed on 100% recycled paper, 40% of which is post-consumer material.
"We know that our customers, including students, schools, and corporate and government entities, all expect us to conduct our business in an environmentally responsible manner," said Stephen Clemente, president of Peterson's. "Our goal is to meet their expectations by improving our printing practices."
If Peterson's used non-recycled paper to print just the new and featured titles from its current annual book catalog, the company would consume the equivalent of about 6,742 trees. Using recycled paper saves the equivalent of at least 2,697 of those trees.*
In addition, all of Peterson's books will now bear the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) label. This means that all of Peterson's vendors--from paper suppliers to printers--have undergone rigorous audits to determine that they are maintaining a sustainable environment (i.e., they receive paper from a certified forest and replenish that supply of trees).
Some of Peterson's most popular titles include Four-Year Colleges; Scholarships, Grants and Prizes; Master the SAT; Master the GED; and ASVAB Basics.
