Testosterone treatment lawsuits (http://www.injurybeacon.com/testosterone-androgel/) continue to move forward in a multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. According to court documents, the litigation’s first case management conference was convened on August 22nd, at which time discovery and other pretrial management issues where addressed. The parties also discussed ways in which the federal proceeding could coordinate with state litigations involving similar testosterone lawsuits. “Our Firm has heard from a number of men who suffered heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and other cardiovascular injuries, allegedly due to their use of prescription low testosterone therapies. We are pleased to see these cases are moving forward,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is now evaluating testosterone lawsuits on behalf of men who were allegedly harmed by these medications.
Testosterone Treatment Allegations
Court documents indicate that at least 177 testosterone treatment lawsuits have been filed in the Northern District of Illinois against the manufacturers of AndroGel, Androderm, Testim and other prescription medications indicated to treat men with low levels of the hormone. The defendants in these cases are all accused of concealing the cardiovascular risks associated with their products, and of failing to warn doctors and patients about their potential to cause serious heart problems.
According to court records, the litigation involving low testosterone therapy began to mount shortly after the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it was investigating the cardiovascular risks that may be linked to its use. In an alert issued on January 31, 2014, the agency said its review was prompted by two studies which indicated that older men, as well as those with pre-existing heart disease, were more likely to suffer heart attacks, strokes or death if they were using testosterone medications.
The FDA’s investigation of testosterone treatments is continuing. The agency is scheduled to convene an outside panel of advisors on September 17th to discuss the cardiovascular side effects potentially associated with the drugs, as well as ways to mitigate those risks.*
Alleged victims of heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or other life-threatening cardiovascular events potentially associated with low testosterone therapy may be entitled to compensation for their injury-related damages.
