A status conference to discuss federally-filed testosterone lawsuits (http://www.testosteronelawsuithub.com/) will take place next month in the Northern District of Illinois, where a multidistrict litigation is underway, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.

A Calendar posted on the Court’s website indicates that the meeting has been scheduled for January 12, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. There, parties involved in the proceeding will likely discuss lawsuits filed over AndroGel, Testim, AndroDerm and other hormone-raising medications that allegedly caused patients to suffer strokes, heart attacks, blood clots, and other life-threatening heart events. “As our Firm continues to review potential testosterone lawsuits involving AndroGel and other products, we are looking forward to the federal litigation’s January status conference, says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of medical devices and drugs. The Firm is now evaluating legal claims on behalf of men who were allegedly harmed by AndroGel and other testosterone treatments.

Testosterone Treatments

According to court documents, more than 260 testosterone lawsuits are now pending in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, after being filed on behalf of men who allege similarly serious cardiovascular injuries following use of the prescription therapies. Plaintiffs in these cases accuse several drug manufacturers of failing to properly warn about, and even concealing drug side effect information from the public. Claimants further allege that the companies promoted the products for off-label uses not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including the treatment of “Low T,” a condition categorized by fatigue, low libido and other common symptoms of aging. Meanwhile, prescription testosterone therapies are only cleared to treat hypogonadism, which refers to abnormally low levels of the hormone caused by an underlying medical condition.

All the testosterone lawsuits filed in Illinois federal court follow an FDA warning in January that it was investigating testosterone drug-related cardiovascular injuries. That September, a panel of advisors orchestrated by the regulator agreed unanimously that labeling on these products should be revised to make clear that they have not been proven effective to treat common symptoms of aging. Manufacturers of testosterone replacement therapies should also be required to conduct safety studies that assess the risk for heart problems.*

Men who allegedly suffered strokes, heart attacks, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or other serious injuries caused by their use of prescription testosterone medications may be eligible to join the growing testosterone therapy litigation.
