What happens when eager-to-help teens, a sympathetic veteran blues diva and a determined group of local community leaders come together? In the case of the beleaguered-but-highly-motivated Boys and Girls Club of Gloucester County in southern New Jersey, the result is a professionally-produced “Thank You” song designed to drive downloads and donations. Every download brings the local organization $3 (or more) closer to erecting a much-needed facility to serve the needs of local kids, of which 75% live at or below poverty level.
Esteban Granados, a local business booster and board member was inspired to approach C C Bronson, the blues artist. “C C said yes immediately and the entire project began to take shape very quickly,” explains Club Director Ka-Msiyara Corbett. “With only a short rehearsal under the direction of local choirmaster Hattie “Peanut” Rone, the kids recorded their parts, courtesy of Philly Sound Studios. Matt Baxley, C C’s cowriter and producer, mixed the single and put it up on CDBaby for download. Using a team of volunteer professionals we created a special Facebook page, Twitter ID: @BGClubThankU and a YouTube channel for social networking. What’s more, a generous donor pressed 500 copies of the single, so the CDs are available at local merchants!”
Bronson, a Florida native who sings the lead and is the Thank You song’s co-writer is thrilled to help the Boys & Girls Club of America. “The proceeds from the sale of this song will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Gloucester County, and it warms my soul to be a part of it, “says Bronson.
The Boys & Girls Club of Gloucester County’s Thank You Song campaign kicks off officially on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the club’s dinner-dance fundraiser. The evening begins at the Glass Museum in Glassboro, N.J., and continues next door at the Glassboro Firehouse.
