With presidential primaries under way and the fight for the White House becoming more intense, a new political party is being born. The Green Tea Party is an independent third party with a focus on uniting disenfranchised voters who are frustrated with the current state of politics. Entrepreneur Mike Mann started the grassroots political movement with the goal of rectifying the corruption and overspending in government. Mann is currently searching for a chairperson to lead the party, which will likely be based in the Washington, D.C. area.
“The Green Tea Party is committed to advocating policies that benefit struggling citizens instead of corporate special interests,” said Mann. “It’s a foundation of transparency, trust and accountability.”
Mann said the public doesn’t trust Democrats or Republicans, and he believes the current political climate is receptive to a third party.
“Politicians in both parties are corrupt,” Mann said. “It’s ridiculous that voters are expected to choose from just two parties. Third and fourth party politics is the only solution to the corrupt two parties and their one monopolistic scam system.”
"Polls show that Americans are more frustrated and angrier at government than ever before," said Taylor Morgan, political programs manager for the Hinckley Institute of Politics at The University of Utah.
Josh Brecheisen, a member of the selection committee recruiting applicants to serve as chairperson of The Green Tea Party National Committee said many of the chairperson’s duties will involve fundraising and organizing a political platform.
“It’s a big deal to take on a new party,” Brecheisen said. “Somebody needs to rise up as a voice of the people and take a leadership role.”
A full job description for the chairperson position is available at proHR.com. Although similar in name, The Green Tea Party is independent from the political views of the Tea Party or Green Party. Learn more about the political organization by visiting GreenTeaParty.org.
Mann, who founded the non-profit Grassroots.org and ChangeTheWorld.org, said that forming the political party was a natural response. He said Obama has failed to fix the struggling economy, adding that no current presidential candidate is capable of pulling the nation from its economic crisis.
“We believe that all Americans have the right to adequate health care, an excellent education and strong environmental regulation in balance with a free market economy,” Mann said about The Green Tea Party. “Government corruption will be greatly diminished by integrating representative government and the Internet with the intention of creating an interactive democracy that allows for direct engagement by citizens.”
