The Khalili Center for Bariatric Care (http://www.khalilicenter.com/), a one-of-a-kind medical practice offering a comprehensive approach to weight loss surgery, with tools and support to help people transform their lives, announces the selection by HealthTap (http://www.healthtap.com) of Dr. Gregg Kai Nishi as the 'Top Bariatrician in the Nation for the Summer 2013 Top Doctor Competition.'

The award, which recognizes Dr. Nishi's help of approximately 500,000 people (445,896, to be exact) on HealthTap, is the highest form of acknowledgment and praise from the site, in honor of Dr. Nishi's expertise and helpfulness. In addition, HealthTap ranks Dr. Nishi #1 Nationally as a Lap Band authority, and #2 Nationally as a Gastric Bypass authority.

A surgeon at the Khalili Center for Bariatric Care, Dr. Nishi has been integrally involved in developing the Center with his colleagues, Dr. Theodore M. Khalili and Dr. Eraj Basseri, whom he worked with at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Nishi brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the Khalili Center. He is an expert on innovative, minimally invasive surgical techniques and has spoken extensively on the subject, having appeared in a variety of news media, including Good Morning America and the Los Angeles Times.

Formerly the Assistant Director of the Cedars-Sinai Center for Minimally Invasive and Weight Loss Surgery, Dr. Nishi was also an attending surgeon in Trauma Services and Surgical Intensive Care at Cedars-Sinai. He is one of the principal investigators of the FDA trials on a new procedure called TOGA (incision-less weight loss surgery), and is one of only a handful of surgeons in the U.S. who have performed this procedure.

Currently Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA, Dr. Nishi has published widely in such journals as American Surgeon and Bariatric Times, and lectures on weight loss surgery at national and international bariatric surgery conferences.

"I want to thank HealthTap for this honor, particularly the site's users who are informed, active and intelligent advocates for educating the public about a variety of medical specialties. Their thoroughness - as well as the sincerity of their reviews and ratings - is a testament to the site's integrity and independence. I accept this award with humility and gratitude, along with my sustained commitment to healing and education," says Dr. Nishi.
