SARASOTA, Fla. (PRWEB) November 20, 2018
The Patterson Foundation and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI are announcing a collaboration to strengthen the social sector through opportunities for future nonprofit leaders to learn and share while evolving their careers. The Foundation’s new Fellows Initiative, which is launching through this collaboration, provides graduates of the world’s first school dedicated solely to the study and teaching of philanthropy a year-long career-building opportunity to learn innovative philanthropic principles and share their expertise.
The Patterson Foundation, a fully endowed charitable entity located in Sarasota, Fla., has worked to strengthen people, organizations and communities since 2010 through a variety of initiatives covering a range of local, regional, national and global issues. The collaboration with the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy represents the latest evolution of The Patterson Foundation’s approach, which emphasizes sharing homegrown knowledge gained through working in diverse initiatives while creating platforms to learn the latest innovations for generating sustainable impact. Laurey Stryker, Ed.D., who served as assistant commissioner of the Florida Department of Education and CEO of the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee before consulting with private foundations on education initiatives, is managing the Fellows Initiative for The Patterson Foundation.
“Throughout nearly a decade of efforts focused on shared aspirations, The Patterson Foundation has sought ways to spread its insights and approaches while gathering and applying learnings from changemakers around the globe,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “The Patterson Foundation has the opportunity and responsibility to pass these learnings onto the nonprofit leaders of tomorrow while listening and infusing their own knowledge into its ongoing endeavors. With a revered faculty that’s dedicated to uncovering the latest innovations in our sector and educating its aspiring leaders, the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy is the perfect partner for the Fellows Initiative as we work together to assemble a network of philanthropic innovators.”
At the vanguard of philanthropy education for more than three decades, Indiana University and the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy educates and prepares students and practitioners to be thoughtful, innovative leaders who awaken generosity and inspire change. Students enrolled in its Master of Arts in Philanthropic Studies degree program learn through a combination in-depth research, study of the history, culture and values of philanthropy and hands-on professional practice in areas such as fundraising, volunteering and civil society. The Patterson Foundation’s Fellows Initiative is open to graduates of the program pursuing careers in community, corporate or private foundations.
“The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy prepares students to make their passion their profession. The Fellows Initiative provides a valuable opportunity for our master’s degree graduates to take the next step in their professional careers,” said Amir Pasic, Ph.D., the Eugene R. Tempel Dean of the school. “We are pleased that this collaboration with The Patterson Foundation will benefit our two organizations by enabling our graduates to both learn from and contribute meaningfully to the work of a dynamic philanthropic foundation.”
