a heartfelt depiction of the quintessential hero’s journey, a mythic tapestry that is creatively unrestrained and unique yet universal in its appreciation of timeless humanistic themes

Douglas Pickard takes readers to a fantastic world where they will join a young elemental warrior as he discovers his heritage, comes of age and strives to muster the strength to face the dark forces threatening all existence. These are the “The Chronicles of Rylet” (published by Xlibris), an adventure epic in scale, soulful in theme and resonant in its depiction of the battle between good and evil.
Long ago, a great evil appeared and nearly destroyed the entire world; his name was Laccid. Along with his army of shadow beasts, he laid waste to anyone who stood in his path. The only ones who were able to stop him were a group of warriors known as the elementals. These five warriors, each with the ability to control one of the elements, defeated Laccid and his legions of shadow beasts, but some escaped. Those five elementals would go on to become the first Guardians of Nature. Fearing another threat would come along in the future, the elementals created weapons known as the element daggers. These daggers would possess the soul of the previous guardians and change form when the new guardian is chosen.
Five hundred years later, the young elemental Rylet has the task of discovering which element power he will receive. Readers will see if he can attain the power of fire like his father, Blazent, the current Fire Guardian, or the power of wind, like the Wind Guardian Soren, his uncle. They will find out if the present guardians will be strong enough to face the looming threat – if they even have a chance to defeat a powerful foe from centuries past.
“The Chronicles of Rylet” is a heartfelt depiction of the quintessential hero’s journey, a mythic tapestry that is creatively unrestrained and unique yet universal in its appreciation of timeless humanistic themes.
