The Gryphon Press announces that author Juanita Havill will be featured and available for a book signing of Call the Horse Lucky at the 7th Annual Fundraiser for Equine Voices Rescue and Sanctuary “A Very Special Horse Event: Building a Community of Compassion.”

Havill’s children’s picture book, Call the Horse Lucky, beautifully illustrated by Nancy Lane, is a perfect dovetail of the real life horses at this event who have been rescued; the story is about a girl who cares enough to make a change in another being’s life. Karen Pomroy, founder of Equine Voices, is recognized by Havill as one of the resources used in the development of the factual information in this profound and heartwarming book. The book typifies the story of many horses that find themselves in tragic situations, with no hope and no help unless someone, somewhere, in a community of compassion decides to get involved, speak up, and make a positive change.

The event will be held at the Brandi Fenton Memorial Park on 3482 E. River Road in Tucson, AZ, on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 11:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.. Heather Rowe, News Anchor from KOLD News 13 will be there to help celebrate the day. Cost to attend the Fundraiser is $5.00 for adults and includes one raffle ticket. Children 13 years and under are free. There will be something for everyone at this special event!

Equine Voices Rescue and Sanctuary is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt organization dedicated to saving Premarin (PMU) mares and foals from slaughter. This rescue also works with law enforcement agencies to provide services to horses suffering from abuse, abandonment, starvation, cruelty and the trauma experienced by horses used to transport illegal contraband across the border. Money raised at this special event goes directly to the rescue, rehabilitation and recovery of horses in desperate need.

Pirate, mini mascot, will be on hand to meet the public and pose for "Pictures with Pirate". Shopping will feature unique clothing, art objects, and jewelry. A live and silent auctions will feature items of interest for everyone, raffles with extraordinary grand prize drawings, and spectacular facial artwork by Face Paint Amy. Food by Quesadillas and More, Sparky’s Cantina, DaKine Shave Ice, and Kettle Korn will provide delicious additions to this special event.

The theme of this special event is “Building a Community of Compassion”. Very special horses that have experienced trauma and are now on the road to recovery will greet the public with their new adoptive families.
