Margaret Walker has practiced family law in Colorado and Kansas since 1977. Her specialties include dissolution of marriage (divorce), collaborative law, mediation, modification of child support, parenting time and parental responsibilities, and issues regarding paternity. In addition to working to ensure fair settlements in these cases, she believes part of her role as an attorney is to educate her clients about the impact the law will have on their specific issues. She strives to help them understand the legal implications associated with their choices, and provide them with the information they need to make the best decisions for themselves and their families. As part of her role as an educator, as well as a senior attorney for the Firm, Ms. Walker offers a monthly seminar at the Firm to provide an overview of the divorce process in Colorado.
She obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Wyoming College of Law, where she studied areas that include: family law, basic estate planning, landlord tenant law, and criminal law. After graduation, she became the Director of Student Legal Services at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. While teaching students about their legal rights, she also designed a course called “Families in the Legal Environment,” and taught that class for seven years. Following her time at CSU, she became a Clinical Professor at the University of Denver Sturm, College of Law in 1988, and instructed students how to practice law helping real clients with real cases. Margaret Walker currently serves on the Executive Council of the Family Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association and serves on the Colorado Law Board of Directors and is a member of the Metropolitan Interdisiplinary Committee.
In 2011, Margaret Walker was nominated by the Denver Business Journal as one of the years Outstanding Women in Business!
