“Family law is based on principles of equity, and what is fair.” This is what Ryann Peyton tries to incorporate into the agreements she drafts for same-sex couples.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 07, 2012
Ryann Peyton, a Colorado family law attorney, was interviewed this week by Law Week Colorado for their “Special Practices” issue. Ryann Peyton is the President of the GLBT Bar Association and currently heads up the nontraditional family law section at The Harris Law Firm. Established in 1993, The Harris Law Firm is the largest domestic relations firm in the State of Colorado and has 20 family law attorneys, and offices in Denver and Fort Collins. Ms. Peyton is now among a handful of lawyers in Colorado who focus on helping same-sex couples with issues regarding family law. Even though Colorado does not yet recognize civil unions, Ms. Peyton says that she continues to encourage gay and lesbian couples to create the equivalent of a prenuptial agreement to put in writing their intentions regarding how assets, debts, and parenting time are to be divided in the event that their relationship ends. The agreement might also cover the equivalent of spousal support to ensure that the partner who is caring for the child can continue to do without worrying about having no income. Peyton says that “Family law is based on principles of equity, and what is fair.” This is what Ryann Peyton tries to incorporate into the agreements she drafts for same-sex couples.
