Our themes are wooooo, wow, ahh, and yummy – a fun assault on the senses. Because when you think about Capital EX, we want you to think about fun – regardless of how old you are
Edmonton, AB (Vocus) July 8, 2010
Edmonton’s hugely expanded Northlands is rolling out a world of awesome summer experiences for the entire family, with many new Edmonton events debuting at CapitalEX, rocking Edmonton with ten days of rollicking good times from July 23 to August 1. “Our themes are wooooo, wow, ahh, and yummy – a fun assault on the senses. Because when you think about Capital EX, we want you to think about fun – regardless of how old you are,” says Sandra Pysklywyc, Manager, Public Relations, Northlands. This is the first year Capital EX takes place in the brand new Edmonton Expo Centre, expanding the attractions both inside and outside, and offering more concessions, more seating areas, and of course, even more fun things to do in Edmonton. This year’s Shop Zone alone will delight visitors with an extra 40,000 square feet.
Making its Canadian debut at Capital EX’s Family Fun Town is It’s a Candy Nation, an exciting new attraction that’s colourful, spectacular and delicious. The exhibit celebrates North America’s leading role in developing the world’s yummiest candies, including Mars Bars, Tootsie Rolls, Wrigley’s Gum, and PEZ. Visitors not only experience a nostalgic look at the candies everyone loved as kids, but they also get a chance to sample
The high flying BMX pros, crowd favorites during the ten day Edmonton celebration, will defy gravity with hard core stunts and popular performances. The President’s Choice Super Dogs are also back with their ever-popular antics and athleticism, this year leaping into spectators’ hearts with all new props and popular music
Highlighting this year’s Centre Stage are the astonishing Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats. “The Centre Stage is also a great place to watch the fireworks,” comments Pysklywyc. Fireworks take place nightly at 11 p.m., weather permitting.
From the midway to the music to the mini-donuts, “Capital EX is ten days of events and attractions you can’t get anywhere else – all in one place,” says Pysklywyc. Concerts, entertainers, concessions, shows, and much more are all included in gate admission. Also rocking Northlands this summer, the Honda Indy Edmonton roars to life Friday, July 23 to Sunday, July 25. Warm-ups, practices, qualifying heats, and a variety of races will take place throughout the weekend. The title IZOD IndyCar Series race action takes place on Sunday, July 23, and spectators won’t be disappointed as they witness the best open wheel racing in the world.
Some of the world’s best drivers will also take on Edmonton’s City Centre Airport track, including Dario Franchitti, the winner of the 2010 Indianapolis 500 and 2009 Edmonton Indy race winner Will Power. Canadian fans can once again cheer for popular Canadian race car drivers Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani.
IndyCars first ran in Edmonton in 2008 and drivers rate this course one of the most difficult courses in the entire circuit. There are 14 turns which drivers must take at top speed, withstanding crushing G forces. “It’s an unbelievable physically demanding course,” says Randy Kilburn, Honda Indy Edmonton spokesperson. “Fans won’t be disappointed – guaranteed.”
Honda Indy Edmonton spectators can catch the intensity of race car action through a number of ticket options. The Pizza 73 Pit Walk Thru Pass allows fans to get up close and personal, watching race preparation on the very edge of the excitement in a fenced-in continuous walk-through area. The Safefreight Technology Paddock passes allow fans to see the drivers and teams as they work on their vehicles. All 3-Day ticket packages also include two day gate admission for Capital EX.
