About Hakuba:
Destination
Hakuba is a rice-farming valley nestled at 800 meters and surrounded by spectacular rugged peaks towering above 3000 meters. It is one of the oldest regions in Japan to take advantage of favorable snow conditions and terrain with the Hosono Ski Club in 1928, the winter activities caught on quickly and eventually brought Hakuba into international spotlight when hosting the 1998 Olympic Winter Games. As Japan’s premier ski region with 10 resorts and over 100 lifts in the valley, Hakuba offers more terrain, vertical rise and advanced ski/board slopes than anywhere in Japan. Yet still to be known by the outside world however, Hakuba is a four season resort enjoyed quietly by the Japanese year round, competitive with major international mountain resorts in a truly Japanese fashion. As a hidden jewel in the Alps, The Ridge is the place to be seen at in Hakuba.
Activities
Virtually any outdoor activity imaginable is available in the Hakuba green season including river rafting, kayaking, climbing, canyoning, parasailing, windsurfing, fishing, summer camps and retreats, adventure courses, ziplining, firefly tours, waterski and wakeboarding, ballooning, tennis, golf, etc. If you do run out of things to do in the valley, the Japan Sea is less than an hour’s drive away for ocean and beach activities.
In addition to the main attraction of intense powder downhill skiing and snowboarding, Hakuba features cross-country skiing courses including the extensive Olympic course, snowshoeing trails and snow playgrounds for kids, cat and heli skiing, backcountry tours and ice fishing. Après-ski activities are varied and abundant including local cuisine, events, and natural hot springs.
