The Three Thieves, known for their innovative packaging and high-quality wines, have reached south of the equator for their latest venture: mouth-filling Argentine Malbec, dressed in original Hatch Show labels, and priced for the value-driven wine marketplace.

The popularity of Argentine Malbec has sky rocketed in the last year with sales of Malbec jumping over 100% in the second half of 2009. This up-and-coming category derives its distinctive, appealing flavors from high-altitude grape-growing in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Winemaker Joel Gott, one of the founders of the Three Thieves and a veteran winemaker, produced the 2009 Show Malbec from special vineyards in two of Mendoza’s best sub-regions: the “El Alto” vineyard in Lujan de Cuyo, situated at over 3,000 feet, contributing dark fruit and ripe tannins, and another in the Uco Valley, even higher altitude, adding acidity and complexity. Aged for nine months in 25% new French oak., the result is a fresh, fruit-forward, velvety bottle of blackberries and spice. The flavor profile of this latest Thieves effort is right on target for the adventurous, younger wine drinkers energizing the current wine scene.

To make sure their new offering is equally matched outside and in, the Thieves turned once again to Hatch Show Print of Nashville, legendary entertainment industry poster producers, for bold, colorful labels to match the flavors of the wine. Hatch labels have graced previous releases of The Show Cabernet Sauvignon, so reteaming with Hatch on The Show Malbec was a natural extension.

The Show Malbec was exclusively unveiled on Gary Vaynerchuck’s popular Wine Library TV on March 9th; all three Thieves joined Gary to taste the wine and share tales of their scouting and winemaking trips to Argentina. The Episode, #830, can be viewed on the Wine Library TV website (http://www.winelibrarytv.com).

The Show Malbec retails for $12.99 and will be available in top wine shops and restaurants nationally.

Three Thieves (http://www.threethieves.com), developed by Charles Bieler, Joel Gott and Roger Scommegna, is the leading brand of Rebel Wine Company, a St. Helena, California based joint venture between Three Thieves and Trinchero Family Estates. Known as much for their innovative packaging as for the wine that is in it, the Three Thieves have distinguished themselves through their originality and vision. Collaborating with Trinchero Family Estates, Napa Valley vintners since 1947, the Thieves have solidified their commitment to quality at a reasonable price, an adage that binds the companies.
