Candid and compelling, this book celebrates the journey of ordinary people, their successes and failures, and inspires readers to create a positive attitude and leave the “what if’s” and turn them into the “I can’s.”

Derrick Woolhouse Paxton shares a poignant look back in time and events through the eyes of a simple, young man braving a new life as an immigrant with his biography featuring “The Ten-Pound Adventure” (published by Xlibris AU). Travelling from England to Australia and daring to succeed against circumstances and differences, this chronicle proves how one can find joy and triumph regardless of background.

“The Ten-Pound Adventure” charts the story of a boy, who on becoming a man was very mixed up after having been adopted as a teenager. He was brought up with love and care during World War II in a life that could be thought of as archaic by today’s standards. He decided at age 20 to cast off the old ways and find a new way of life with adventure. This is in the hope that others with similar beginnings will see that destiny is in their hands – setting aside the human hurts and superstitions which can entrap.

Paxton tells of what England was like and what Australia had to offer to a newcomer like him – a land with differences that had to be overcome and enjoyed. Mixing with many other New Australians, he shows how one can succeed despite certain rejections. “No matter what people say, follow your dream, no matter what the past has taught you, and to adapt to the new life and enjoy it. There is no such thing as failure – just another learning curve.”

Candid and compelling, this book celebrates the journey of ordinary people, their successes and failures, and inspires readers to create a positive attitude and leave the “what if’s” and turn them into the “I can’s.”
