Festival of Sail is an exciting, family-friendly way to bid adieu to summer. Thousands will come to see more than 20 tall ships as they make their way into the harbor. Declan Suites – A San Diego Hotel welcomes Labor Day weekend visitors with impressive special offers. View offer details.
Festival of Sail
When: August 29 through September 1, 2014
Where: Maritime Museum of San Diego | 1492 North Harbor Drive
The Festival of Sail is the biggest tall ships event on the entire West Coast. The event begins with a parade of these majestic ships. Cannon fire salutes mark their journey toward their mooring place at the Maritime Museum. For four days visitors will have the chance to board these vessels and enjoy the many other activities available at this popular thing to do in San Diego.
Attendees are able to be on board the ship during their movement toward the Museum, but only a limited number of tickets are available. Once the ships are docked, the public will be allowed to board some of the ships for tours. Thirty minute cruises around the Bay will provide a different vantage point for viewing the Tall Ships. These cruises will be available throughout the event.
Festival of Sail has grown since last year, and the event now offers a larger kids zone, more vendors, and additional activities. The kids’ zone includes face painting, a petting zoo, an arts and crafts area, and the chance to have a photograph taken with a pirate. Adults will enjoy the live entertainment and beer garden. Food vendors will also be set up throughout the event.
General admission tickets can be purchased ahead of time or at the Maritime Museum’s box office on the day of the event. Tickets for riding aboard during the Tall Ship parade and those for the harbor cruises should be purchased in advance as tickets for those activities are likely to sell out ahead of time.
Hours for the 2014 Festival of Sail are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the event’s final day.
