The international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP announced today that Thomas D. Sykes has joined its Chicago office as a Shareholder in the Tax Practice. He comes to Greenberg Traurig from McDermott, Will & Emery LLP where he was a Partner.
Sykes has focused his practice on tax controversies, including tax litigation in all forums, for more than 25 years. He represents some of the United States’ most successful and well-known individuals, for-profit corporations and tax-exempt organizations. Previously, Sykes spent almost 14 years with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division in Washington, D.C., where he litigated or directly supervised the litigation of approximately 175 tax cases in the Court of Federal Claims, in U.S. District Courts and in a U.S. Court of Appeals. He is a four-time recipient of Outstanding Attorney awards from the Tax Division.

Also, his rich experience gives him perspectives that allow clients to look at a dispute and quickly decide how to best proceed,” said Keith J. Shapiro, Co-Managing Shareholder of Greenberg Traurig's Chicago office.
