The Thor-CBL-HDMI and Thor-CBL-DP offer unique solutions for customers to achieve optimal image quality from their high-resolution, flat-panel displays in public environments such as airports, hospitals, and casinos.

At IBC2011, Telecast Fiber Systems introduced two new members of its Thor family of DVI signal conversion and transport products: the Thor-CBL-HDMI and Thor-CBL-DisplayPort (DP). The Thor-CBL-HDMI is a hybrid cable solution using multimode fibers for RGB and high-speed digital graphic signals, and copper wires for low-frequency HDCP control signals. The Thor-CBL-DP provides an attractive alternative to digital display interfaces such as HDMI and DVI.

“Like the other members of the Thor product family, the Thor-CBL-HDMI and Thor-CBL-DP offer unique solutions for customers to achieve optimal image quality from their high-resolution, flat-panel displays in public environments such as airports, hospitals, and casinos,” said Steve DeFrancesco, vice president and general manager of Telecast Fiber Systems. “Both systems harness optical technology for transmissions that stretch performance beyond the limitations of copper wire, by spanning greater distances, providing data security and negligible RFI/EM, and eliminating costly analog distribution systems.”

The Thor product family includes fiber optic interfaces for conversion and handling of DVI signals in a wide range of broadcasting and professional A/V applications. In addition to the Thor-CBL-HDMI and Thor-CBL-DP, the Thor product line includes the Thor-S, a combination multiplexer, repeater, and crosspoint switcher; the Thor-C line of analog converters and extenders; and two fiber optic extenders: the Thor-EU for uncompressed video signals and Thor-E for compressed DVI signals.

The Thor-CBL-HDMI is designed to extend high-definition multimedia interface connectivity and maintain front-of-screen video quality for high-speed digital graphic interconnections. The system uses optical technology for pure long-distance signal integrity, eliminating EMI/RFI transmission and reception for the optimum visual experience. The lightweight, cost-effective Thor-CBL-HDMI comes equipped with rugged cabling and connectors, with low power consumption and easy plug-and-go installation.

Also based on optical technology, the Thor-CBL-DP is able to span longer distances with data security, negligible RFI/EMI, and the elimination of costly analog distribution systems. The system supports single-lane transfer rates as fast as 2.7 Gbps across as many as four data pairs, for a maximum of 10.8 Gbps over a single cable. These features combine with support for color depth as great as 16 bits per color channel to give designers the option of improving image quality in applications that require screen resolution of as much as WQXGA (2560×1600), as well as increasing refresh rates to 120 Hz.

The Thor product family will be among several new Telecast Fiber Systems innovations for fiber optic transport on display in the company’s IBC2011 stand, 10.B39.
