New Social Shopping Website ‘Crowdstorm’ Appoints Threepipe for Launch

Phil Wilkinson, founder of online price comparison sites ShopGenie and Kelkoo UK, has appointed Threepipe to launch his latest venture called Crowdstorm which will become one of the net’s best sources of impartial product information. The site is one of the first to offer real ‘social shopping’ which measures the buzz around products and allows users to recommend products to each other amongst their friends and trusted networks. Crowdstorm will initially cover consumer electronics products but this will widen with the sites increasing popularity.

The launch campaign which begins this month will initially target influential bloggers and podcasters that cover consumer electronics and also more general web 2.0 related events. Web 2.0 is a term that has been given to describe the greater collaboration between online users and the wider distribution of that resulting content into multiple online areas.

Crowdstorm has also been set up by Christopher Scollo, previously the VP Technology of Ciao.com, one of the net’s most popular product review site. Crowdstorm measures the buzz surrounding products by showing a genuine reflection of user activity via the number of comments, recommendations, views, edits and blog links. This buzz is what allows users to make an informed choice. Whereas price comparison sites show users where to buy products, Crowdstorm takes a step back and helps users find what to buy in the first place.
