To have fitness in common with the man that I would marry was important because I felt like we could be outside together, we could be active together, we wouldn't just be sitting on the couch together.

"We're really pleased our coverage on the Today Show," said Christopher Mattioli, President of Fitness Singles. "The producers interviewed a couple who met on Fitness Singles, after having tried other general dating websites such as eHarmony and Match.com. Having a fitness passion in common was a key factor in their chemistry and now Angie and Wally are happily married."

In the segment, Angie describes her motivation to make the change to Fitness Singles to Today Show reporter Jenna Wolfe.

"To have fitness in common with the man that I would marry was important," she said, "because I felt like we could be outside together, we could be active together, we wouldn’t just be sitting on the couch together."

The couple's first date involved hot yoga, where Wally – a triathlete – noted with a laugh, "I thought I was going to die."

The couple dated for a year before tying the knot, becoming yet another married relationship that started with membership to Fitness Singles.

Since the story ran on March 27, there has been increasing interest in Fitness Singles membership, already the largest specialized dating web site in the world.

"We usually see a bump in membership around Valentine's day and leading into spring, but this news report has really raised awareness among active singles that there is a dating web site that caters specifically to exercise enthusiasts and other health conscious people," Mattioli said.

"Our members are looking for people who share their fitness and exercise passion. Having a romantic partner who wants to engage in common interests such as running, hiking, yoga or working out gives them a basis for a lot of fun, shared activities."

Founded in 2003, Fitness Singles quickly established itself as the leading place for active singles to meet. As fitness becomes more important to a growing number of people, the company is optimistic about continued growth in the coming years.
