These new awards will recognize tool manufacturers that go above and beyond, either by creating a tremendous tool or by responding to customer feedback to fix a problem.

ToolSelect.com, an unbiased community of tool reviews, is introducing three new awards to recognize the efforts of tool manufacturers. The Four- and Five-Star Awards celebrate a power tool that received a glowing review from a ToolSelect tool tester, and the Man Up Award gives credit to a manufacturer that makes dramatic changes to a product based on a less-than-stellar review.
“Our goal with ToolSelect is to help people make good purchasing decisions with power tools, no matter their experience level,” says Tom Klein, vice president of marketing and merchandising with ToolSelect. “These new awards will recognize tool manufacturers that go above and beyond, either by creating a tremendous tool or by responding to customer feedback to fix a problem.”
The Five-Star Award will be given to any tool that receives a perfect score of five out of five stars, as judged by the unbiased tool tester. The four criteria in any tool review are performance, design, quality and value. For a tool to receive the Five-Star Award, it must earn a perfect rating in each of those categories.
The Four-Star Award is based on the same criteria, and goes to any tool rated four or higher but less than five. These two awards acknowledge the hard work required through the entire development process to create such exemplary tools.
When a tool doesn’t measure up to a manufacturer’s high standards, there are a lot of ways a company can proceed. ToolSelect is unveiling the Man Up Award to honor companies that do the right thing and fix the product. This could mean making a significant change to the product, scrapping the SKU and starting from scratch or discontinuing the product. It takes a lot for a company to man up and admit an inferior product, and the Man Up Award shows the respect those companies deserve.
“It’s important to recognize both excellence and integrity, and these three new awards are designed to do that,” says Klein. “It’s also important to note the four- and five-star awards are based on the thoughts of a single tool tester, and we encourage every member of our community to throw their opinions in the mix. It’s all in the interest of helping all our users make the best decision possible when making a purchase.”
ToolSelect is an unbiased community powered by its members that covers all aspects, types and brands of tools, but does not actually sell any tools. ToolSelect’s members include everyone from experienced tradesmen to complete novices. Users trade tips, compare notes, debate their favorite tools and work together to help each other make intelligent purchasing decisions.
