Biofilms: Recent Study Supports Elimination of Biofilm Colonies; Sinus Patients may Benefit

With biofilms being implicated as a hindrance to the eradication of bacteria in the sinuses, Aerosol Science Laboratories (ASL Pharmacy) has developed a new Mupirocin formula. Mupirocin may be useful in eliminating S. aureus biofilms present on the sinus mucosa of patients with CRS. Unit dose vials of this medication are now available by prescription through ENT and Allergy clinics.

Our results suggest that topical mupirocin may be useful in eliminating S. aureus biofilms present on the sinus mucosa of patients with CRS.

Camarillo, CA (PRWEB) February 1, 2008 -- Aerosol Science Laboratories (ASL Pharmacy) announces today a new formula for topical sinus use containing mupirocin. Mupirocin has been proven effective against biofilms in in vitro clinical studies.

Biofilms have recently been implicated in the chronic nature of sinusitis. From Dr. P. J. Wormald's clinical study, In Vitro Activity of Mupirocin on Clinical Isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and its Potential Implications in Chronic Sinusitis: "Our results suggest that topical mupirocin may be useful in eliminating S. aureus biofilms present on the sinus mucosa of patients with CRS."

ASL's compounded Mupirocin solution is derived from the pure powder, rather than from an ointment. ASL provides easy topical therapy two ways. Currently, ASL can provide these doses:

A. Aerosolization Therapy with our Sinus Science™ Nebulizer
1. Mupirocin 3.3mg TID x 30 days

B. Irrigation Therapy with the Grossan Hydro-Pulse™ or NeilMed™ Irrigation Bottle
1. Mupirocin 15mg/100ml (50ml bilateral) BID 30 days

All of our Irrigation formulas are dispensed as unit dose vials, which are mixed with sterile saline immediately before the patient administers their therapy insuring stability and sterility of the drug. This step is not required with Aerosol therapy.

ASL assists doctors' offices by counseling and instructing patients how to administer their medications. These therapies are usually covered by insurance. We deliver orders to patients' home by FedEx within 24-48 hours from the time physicians write the prescription. Doctors simply fax prescriptions to 866-442-7579. We will do the rest and inform the doctor's office when the order ships. Please call us at 866-552-7579 if you have any questions or would like to receive a free copy of the above referenced study.

We look forward to assisting physicians in the elimination of biofilm in patients with Chronic Rhinosinusitis. For more information, visit our website @ Sinus Science.
