Robert Gibb & Sons, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) service provider headquartered in Fargo, N.D., has received a Gold 2011 Value Chain Award presented by Connected World magazine. Together with solution providers, Pedigree Technologies and Garmin Ltd., the HVAC service provider was recognized for the customized and innovative adoption of machine-to-machine (M2M) technology that ultimately increases revenue opportunities while cutting service delivery costs.

“We are pleased to be recognized with a Connected World magazine award,” said Ian McPherson, Pedigree Technologies' vice president of marketing and product management. “The award highlights the unique value of our operations management software for ‘Condition-based Service Management’ in providing mechanical and field service companies, like Robert Gibb & Sons, with a competitive advantage in the marketplace.”

Winners of the annual Connected World Value Chain Awards are determined by a panel of industry analysts and experts, highlighting the process of combining multiple technologies to create a M2M value chain. Pedigree Technologies first approached Robert Gibb & Sons about partnering on a customized application for the HVAC industry because of the company’s 100 year history of adopting technology to benefit its customers. Pedigree’s OneView system allowed Robert Gibb & Sons to build a new service offering around remote equipment monitoring, enabling the company to continually measure and track machine performance plus perform diagnostics remotely for its customers. With the addition of Garmin navigation devices to communicate with and dispatch the service technician, the system brings service calls cut by more than half and reduced customer downtime—and a competitive advantage.

“This award recognizes the outcomes possible when you can successfully connect customers with their machines,” said Peggy Smedley, editorial director, Connected World magazine. “This value chain creates a new service offering plus an advantage for both the end customer and the service provider, showcasing what this level of adoption of M2M technology makes possible.”
