This is the practice of Affiliates bidding on merchant names or trademarks via paid search ads to drive traffic.

AvantLink announced today the addition of a powerful tool for retailers using their leading Affiliate marketing platform. The Paid Search Review tool allows merchants to monitor a self-configured keyword list of paid search marketing bids by their Affiliates, through a network report. The tool was inspired by the open source code from Mark Silliman, owner of Spadout.com. However AvantLink CTO David Clark expanded upon that original idea to develop enhanced keyword monitoring functionality. This technology is available to AvantLink merchants free of charge.
Results of Paid Search Review monitoring are available in standard reporting output that provides the following information related to merchant-configured keyword watch lists: merchant name, search term (ad keyword trigger), search engine, affiliate network (including other major networks the merchant has programs in), affiliate tracking parameters, ad landing page, first observed occurrence date and last observed occurrence date. As with any report data output, merchants can subscribe and have Paid Search Review data delivered via email, RSS or direct API request for HTML, Tab Delimited, Comma Separated, or XML.
AvantLink.com was founded in 2005 on the ideas of Affiliate marketing innovation, quality and service. They are a leading technology and tracking provider in the cost per sale Affiliate space offering enhanced retailer brand protection, datafeed scripts and other Affiliate tools like tracking embedded RSS feeds, an API, dynamic coupon/deal feeds, ad widgets, product content syndication options and more.
