TradePlumbing.co.uk, one of the UK's leading retailers of bathroom and kitchen plumbing supplies, have added an informative article to the FAQ and Information area of its website. The new article offers valuable advice on what to do if a boiler condensate drainage pipe becomes frozen.
Recent winters have brought unprecedented spells of extremely cold weather to the UK. As a consequence calls to boiler manufacturers and heating engineers have significantly increased, with the main problem being frozen condensate pipes causing boilers to shut down. These problems mostly occur when all, or part of, the condensate drainage pipe is located outside of the building.
High efficiency (condensing) boilers remove more useful heat from the combustion gases, resulting in additional water vapour which has to be collected within the boiler as condensate, and taken to a suitable drainage point via the condensate drainage pipe.
Current British Standards allows condensate pipes to be located both externally and internally, or a combination of both, so the new article offers advice on what to do if your boiler condensate drainage pipe freezes this winter.
Managing Director of TradePlumbing, Peter Clayton comments, "At TradePlumbing we've always believed that knowledge is key, so informative articles such as our latest one on condensate pipes, are important for our customers. They arm them with vital information to understand the functionality and upkeep of the purchases they make and will stand them in good stead if their boiler breaks down over the holidays. We continue to add to our online information bank on a regular basis."
