As transvaginal mesh lawsuits (http://www.transvaginalmeshlawsuithelp.com/) continue to mount in U.S. courts, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes that C.R. Bard Inc. may be close to settling hundreds of such cases for more than $21 million. According to a report from Bloomberg News, the agreement would resolve some 500 claims for approximately $43,000 each. The report noted that the deal was struck as a federal judge overseeing thousands of vaginal mesh lawsuit in West Virginia ordered C.R. Bard to prepare about 500 cases for trial.*

Transvaginal Mesh Litigation
Court documents indicate that C.R. Bard is currently named a defendant in more than 9,000 transvaginal mesh lawsuits that have been filed in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of West Virginia, where federal cases involving the company’s pelvic mesh products have been consolidated for coordinated pretrial proceedings. According to court records, the federal litigation’s first trial of a C.R. Bard mesh lawsuit concluded in August 2013, with a jury awarding $2 million to a woman who suffered complications related to the company’s Avaulta Plus device. After being implanted with the mesh in 2009 to correct pelvic organ prolapse, the plaintiff was forced to undergo multiple corrective procedures due to pain, bleeding, bladder spasms and other serious vaginal mesh complications. The C.R. Bard litigation is just one of several pending in the Southern District of West Virginia for vaginal mesh lawsuits. Bernstein Liebhard LLP partner, Jeffrey S.
