New York, New York (PRWEB) August 13, 2013
Vaginal mesh lawsuits (http://www.vaginalmeshlawsuit2015.com/) involving Ethicon Inc.’s line of Gynecare pelvic mesh products continue to move forward in the multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of West Virginia. According to a Pretrial Order dated August 12th, the Court has determined that it would be beneficial to conduct weekly telephonic discovery conferences in the Ethicon litigation, and has scheduled seven such conferences through September 27, 2013. The first discovery conference will be held on August 16th at 4:00 p.m. (In re: Ethicon, Inc., Pelvic Repair Systems Products Liability Litigation - MDL No. 2327)
“We are pleased to see that discovery is continuing to progress in this proceeding, as we are representing numerous women in transvaginal mesh lawsuits who were allegedly injured by Ethicon’s Gynecare pelvic mesh products,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm continues to offer free legal reviews to victims of serious vaginal mesh complications following surgery to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.
Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits
According to court documents, more than 8,630 vaginal mesh lawsuits have been filed against Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon unit in the Southern District of West Virginia. All of the claims pending in the proceeding allege the Defendants failed to warn doctors and patients about the significant risk of serious vaginal mesh complications, including mesh erosion, chronic pain, and infections, associated with their products. Bernstein Liebhard LLP partner, Jeffrey S. Grand, is serving on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the federal Ethicon litigation. The proceeding’s first bellwether trial is scheduled to begin in January.
Mr. Grand is also serving on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committees for proceedings underway in West Virginia that involve similar claims against American Medical Systems, Inc. (MDL No. 2325) Boston Scientific Corp., (MDL No. 2326); and C.R. Bard, Inc., (MDL No. 2187). He has also been named Co-Liaison Counsel in two consolidated litigations established in New Jersey’s Atlantic County Superior Court for vaginal mesh lawsuits involving Ethicon and C.R. Bard products. In addition, Mr. Grand was a member of the trial team for the first Ethicon trial in that proceeding, which ended in March with an $11 million verdict for the Plaintiff.
