The 21st Marmaris International Race Week is to be held between the 23-29 October this year, with 2010’s race featuring a few key events for both the participants and spectators of the race. One of which will be the famed Best Fancy Dressed Team competition, which takes place on the 28 October, and boasts a grand prize of €500, meaning that next month will be a prime time for anyone looking to book late Marmaris holidays this year.
Luke Nathan of online travel consultants Travelsoon.com says: “This boat race has been a staple of the European yachting calendar since it began in 1980, and it takes in some of the most beautiful and unusual aspects of the Mediterranean coastline. Over the year’s this event has got more popular with locals and tourists alike, and this year’s race will see 140 boats and thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world compete to win this prestigious boating event.”
While the Marmaris International Race Week takes place in the autumn, this is often one of the better times to visit the country, as the weather in Turkey in September and October is much cooler for travellers compared to the hotter clime during the tourist season, which runs from July to September. So the price of all inclusive holidays to Turkey could work out that little bit cheaper in October, meaning Marmaris could be the place to go for some winter sun.
Nathan continues: “The tourist season in Turkey traditionally starts in July and then goes on until mid-September. After this time, resorts and hotels all over Marmaris are generally much quieter, and while some resorts close completely for the winter, others will stay open, and could even offer tourists a discount during the race.”
