Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises Hit Another Home Run

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises again win the majority of Travel Weekly’s Readers Choice Awards.

For the fourth consecutive year, Royal Caribbean International and its sister company, Celebrity Cruises overwhelmed the competition by winning nearly every one of the Travel Weekly 2011 Readers Choice Awards for which they were eligible. Out of ten eligible cruise line categories, the two affiliated companies won an incredible eight awards, including:

·    Best Cruise Line: Domestic – Royal Caribbean International

·    Best Cruise Line: Caribbean – Royal Caribbean International

·    Best Cruise Line: Europe – Celebrity Cruises

·    Best Cruise Line: Premium – Celebrity Cruises

·    Best Cruise Ship: Rookie – Royal Caribbean International Allure of the Seas

·    Best Cruise Ship: Premium – Celebrity Solstice

·    Best Cruise Line: Sales & Service – Royal Caribbean International

·    Best Cruise Line: Overall – Royal Caribbean International

Attending the black-tie event at the Plaza Hotel in New York City as a guest of Celebrity Cruises was Greg Coiro, CEO of Direct Line Cruises, a leading cruise retailer headquartered in Long island, New York. “This is the fifth year that I’ve been invited to attend as a guest of either Celebrity Cruises or Royal Caribbean International,” Greg recalled, “and every year it gets more and more enjoyable. The night just flies by.”

According to Helen Coiro, President of Direct Line Cruises, who attended as a guest of Royal Caribbean International, “What makes the Travel Weekly Readers Choice awards so special and so important to the recipients is that the winners are selected entirely by travel agents and agency owners, like me, who vote based on our personal experiences as well as the feedback we get from tens of thousands of our clients. And, winning so many awards year after year really says something about these two incredible cruise lines.”

Accepting the awards for Royal Caribbean International was Vicki Freed, Senior Vice President of Sales. Also accepting the coveted “Best Cruise Line; Sales & Service Award” on behalf of Royal Caribbean along with Ms. Freed was Joanne Schimelman, Vice President Sales and National Accounts.        

Accepting the awards for Celebrity Cruises was Dan Hanrahan, its President and CEO and Dondra Ritzenthaler, Senior Vice President of Sales.

Following the gala event, Helen Coiro likened it to a “Who’s Who” in the travel industry. “Top executives from the world’s largest airlines, hotel chains, car rental companies, tour companies and, of course, the cruise lines were everywhere”, Helen observed. “But, for me, the most exciting part of the evening was to see our friends at Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises get the credit and recognition that they so richly deserve for building those incredible ships and for the service they provide at every level to their cruise guests and to those of us who are part of their retail distribution network. It was truly an honor to be there.”
