The National Bowhunter Education Foundation (NBEF) and DVD manufacturer iDEA Media announced today that shipments of the hugely popular hunting education video, SAFE TREESTAND HUNTING, have now exceeded the six million units milestone.

SAFE TREESTAND HUNTING was first released in 1999 as part of a national treestand safety education program launched by NBEF to support the Treestand Manufacturers Association (TMA) in an effort to reduce the number of hunter injuries and fatalities.

“User error due to negligence in following the co-packaged instructions included with treestands manufactured to TMA standards is one of the major causes of hunting accidents,” said Wade Nolan, SAFE TREESTAND HUNTING producer, bowhunting biologist and treestand expert. “This video was created to educate and protect hunters, and has become the national standard in treestand safety education. Today, the NBEF video continues to demonstrate safety procedures to millions of hunters.”

SAFE TREESTAND HUNTING has also been used as a litigation tool for TMA members for nearly ten years and has been used in dozens of cases nationwide. In one such recent case, a Pennsylvania jury ruled in full favor of a treestand manufacturer after watching the video, which plainly instructs hunters on how to properly use the product to prevent injury. The jury determined that it was the hunter’s negligence in following instructions, and not a malfunction of the product itself, that led to the injury.

In conjunction with NBEF’s Project STAND (Stop Tree Stand Accidents ‘n Deaths), a massive communications effort designed to reduce treestand accidents, iDEA Media has made the SAFE TREESTAND HUNTING video available complimentary to hunters worldwide via http://www.treestandvideo.com.

"Education is a powerful tool and the NBEF's SAFE TREESTAND HUNTING production has proven to be the hunting industry's best distributed DVD of all time,” said Marilyn Bentz, executive director of the NBEF. “Unlike most free DVD's, this one doesn't sell anything except solid 'how-to' instruction that, if followed, can reduce a hunter’s risk of falling.”

Treestand manufactures can co-package NBEF’s SAFE TREESTAND HUNTING video for inclusion with their products by contacting iDEA Media.
