About John Farr
Since his early years, John Farr has nurtured an abiding love of movies and the entire film-making process. He started "Best Movies By Farr" not long after leaving his position as senior partner at Ogilvy & Mather, a Madison Avenue ad firm. John recalls: "When friends kept repeating that they felt overwhelmed by choice in selecting DVD's, I saw an opportunity to create a quality filter for the best in film".
In 2003, John also co-founded Stamford, Connecticut's Avon Theatre Film Center, hosting "movie nights" to affluent, educated audiences. Recently, the Best Movies by Farr team has taken "movie nights" on the road, a format in which John hosts and lectures around the country at clubs and theaters, schools and colleges, introducing great films to interested audiences. His initial touring has already left a trail of interest among younger movie viewers, and after having the opportunity to hear and see John's movie lectures, most clients have requested an encore presentation.
Farr also writes a bi-weekly film column entitled "DVD Detective" for The Stamford Advocate, a Gannett newspaper affiliate, and has published regularly in Westchester Magazine, Waterkeeper magazine, and Travel Savvy. John is constantly invited to be a panelist on film- and art-related discussions, including series at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Connecticut, Westport Playhouse, and elsewhere.
John also leads the Best Movies By Farr team. Best Movies By Farr guides users through more than 1300 choices in John Farr's expansive home library, all searchable by actor, time period, genre, actor/director, country, or mood. Best Movies by Farr is the holy grail for lovers of indispensable film. The site is currently being re-designed to include such features as video clips, pod casting downloads, audio commentary and blogging opportunities with John Farr.
John also hosts a Blog, Farr on Film which links to the home page of Best Movies by Farr with interviews, newspaper columns, and movie chat, also provides a tool for users to add comments and offer feedback on the site, as well as what they've seen and loved. Finally, for anyone wanting to start a DVD collection of their own, Farr has a nifty interface for curating a first-rate archive.
