The trucking industry has long been a steady provider of a significant percentage of jobs in every state and now with the economy back in forward mode, U.S. companies are expected to create more than 115,000 truck driver jobs per year through 2016. But while they may be creating these jobs, the question and growing concern is whether or not they find people to fill them. Page Siplon, executive director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics paints a clear picture of where we are now. “The number of Americans getting trained to fill those jobs each year is barely 10 percent of the total demand” he said.
