Coast2Coast Rx announced today that Tulare County residents have saved more than $2.2 million on prescription costs by using the program’s prescription discount card — including $1.2 million in 2011 alone. Approved by the County Board of Supervisors in 2010, this month marks the two-year anniversary of the program in Tulare County.
In addition to the savings the program provides, the Coast2Coast card also serves as a source of revenue for the county, generating $1.25 for Tulare County for each prescription filled using the card. This royalty feature is unique among prescription discount programs and is an effortless way for residents to contribute to their community while saving money.
The completely free Coast2Coast Rx card provides instant discounts of up to 75 percent on over 60,000 brand name and generic prescription drugs and through a partner program, can save on dental, vision and hearing services, diabetes supplies and even pet prescriptions. With no eligibility requirements, the card is available to all Tulare County residents regardless of age or health status. While the card can provide significant savings for those without health insurance, it can also be effective for those whose insurance plans carry high deductibles or do not cover certain medications. In some instances the card can be used to offset the Medicare Part D “donut hole.”
“For Tulare residents lacking sufficient healthcare coverage, the Coast2Coast Rx card can offer relief from the high costs of prescriptions and other healthcare services,” said District Four Supervisor Steve Worthley. “These savings are an asset to individuals and families that are working hard to keep their household expenses manageable.”
Coast2Coast Rx continues to expand its work with public departments and local nonprofit agencies to increase awareness of the card. The program does not require membership paperwork; residents can simply pick up or download and print free cards at http://www.coast2coastrx.com/tulare/ and present the card at one of the many participating chain and local pharmacies for immediate savings when they purchase their prescriptions.
“Our goal is to help improve health outcomes by providing savings on necessary prescriptions and healthcare services,” said Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card. “The Coast2Coast Rx card gives consumers peace of mind by offering a simple way to make healthcare needs more affordable.”
