Built in partnership with Affirmed Housing Group, Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC), US Bank, and Turner Construction Company, Ten Fifty B is pleased to announce that it has topped out. The 23-story, $91 million development in the heart of downtown San Diego will feature 229 affordable apartments in studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom designs, and 14,000 square feet of commercial space. Designed by San Diego-based Martinez + Cutri, Ten Fifty B is anticipated to be complete in April 2010.
Residents of Ten Fifty B will enjoy multiple tot lots, barbecue and picnic areas, an outdoor fire pit, more than 7,000 square feet of open space, underground parking, a computer lab/business center with access to computers and free internet, a free after-school computer class, resume preparation assistance, and life skills classes. The building will also include solar photovoltaic panels which will produce electricity for lighting in the common areas, and will be certified LEED Silver upon completion.

LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system which provides third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built to decrease environmental impact. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED projects must meet certain prerequisites and earn a minimum number of points to be certified.

The topping out of Ten Fifty B was marked with a celebration on Thursday, October 1, 2009. The Ten Fifty B Topping Out Ceremony commenced in downtown San Diego, where media, VIPs, and Mayor Jerry Sanders donned hard hats for a sneak peak tour of the site. The speaking program included speakers Councilmember Kevin Faulconer (District 2), Jamie Awford (Turner Construction), James Silverwood (Affirmed Housing Group), Jennifer LeSar (CCDC), and John Chan (US Bank). The epitome of smart growth, Ten Fifty B will not only be LEED Silver certified upon completion, it will also be one of the tallest 100 percent affordable housing projects in the country.
