As technology evolved, job ads went digital. Employers sought talent on general job boards, such as Monster and CareerBuilder as well as niche job boards like Dice and Craigslist. More recently, recruiting has gone social on websites like LinkedIn.”

Despite this evolution, Schmitt recognized that the pricing model remained unchanged. Executive search firms are typically paid a percentage of the first-year base salary, either as a 90-day retainer or when a candidate is placed with a client. “Every other aspect of the industry has changed while the pricing model has remained the same for over 50 years,” Schmitt explains.

Frustrated with that approach and the lack of client-based customization, Schmitt spent six months researching new models that would offer clients more flexible pricing options. He involved local CEOs, human resources and sales and marketing leaders in the conversation and eventually a new model emerged. The new model is based upon the client’s volume and time frame for hiring. Rather than pay a large, lump sum fee, clients enjoy improved cash flow because the cost is spread over six to twelve months, based on the projected hiring needs.

“Our new Perpetual Recruiting program encourages companies to create forward-looking, proactive hiring plans by identifying areas of high growth and potential turnover while seeking opportunities to upgrade existing talent,” Schmitt describes. By taking advantage of this new pricing structure, not only will companies be able to develop a pipeline of pre-screened, relevant and highly skilled talent, they can also lower their overall recruiting expenses by earning a discount on their fees.
