Peabody Award-winning Turnstyle News journalist Denise Tejada walked among droves of protesters in Oakland, California, in late October as she took photos with her SLR digital camera, submitted live tweets and prepared blog posts. Hers and other Turnstyle stories on Occupy Oakland traveled seamlessly onto Turnstyle’s hub site, partner sites, mobile devices, iPads, on-air, and through social media channels.

One of the first national news outlets to cover the Occupy movement in-depth, Turnstyle News is a content brand built by and for smart, multimedia-hungry young adults.

Turnstyle News, a content syndication service, stays consistently ahead of trends in the areas of news, art, and culture. “Turnstyle's strength is its diversity of contributors. From hip-hop artists taking us through their creative process, Iraqi-American filmmakers visiting a war-torn nation, to advanced documentary footage of one of the greatest punk bands of all time, we aim to bring the best emerging talent in media today,” says Managing Editor Alejandro De La Cruz.

Turnstyle News tailors and scales its content feeds to suit the needs of its partners. Designed with the growing tablet market in mind, Turnstyle recently partnered with Yahoo!, providing a media-rich content feed for the launch of its Livestand app, available to iPads in the iTunes store.

With Yahoo! and a growing list of news media partners, Turnstyle stories air on NPR’s All Things Considered, feed into The Huffington Post, are curated by Boing Boing contributors, and are utilized by many more public and commercial media outlets—accounting for hundreds of thousands of monthly unique users engaged with Turnstyle’s content.

"A wonderful mix of news, commentary, photography and blogging," Boing Boing Managing Editor Rob Beschizza says of Turnstyle. He helped develop and design the site.

Turnstyle’s newsroom delivers text and multimedia reports in the form of high-resolution photo essays, video packages and articles with accompanying imagery.

Turnstyle News is a product of Youth Radio, a nonprofit organization based in Oakland, California. Turnstyle’s newsroom is powered by the award-winning journalists of Youth Radio. Their sixty-plus journalism honors include two Peabodys, four Edward R. Murrows, a Columbia DuPont, and the Robert F. Kennedy Award.
