The MOT Shop of York sends out monthly text reminders to customers reminding them that their car is due for an MOT. Jim Belt, owner of the MOT Shop claims to have had huge success with SMS, with a clear increase in MOT bookings directly after sending out a text. Belt believes his success stems from the fact that “Text messages can be carefully targeted at a select audience.”

Hartwell PLC has also rolled out an SMS text campaign to all their UK dealerships, with regular sales promotions hitting prospects prior to the weekend. Matt Cannon of Hartwell’s expressed delight with their results from the outset with claims that “After their first text campaign they had the busiest weekend in ages.”

The average response rate for a text marketing campaign is 12%, which is 4 times higher than other mediums such as direct mail and e-marketing, it also works out at a fraction of the cost of other more traditional advertising tactics.

Txtlocal MD Darren Daws believes “That during the economic downturn it is more important than ever for businesses to communicate with their customers. If businesses have customer data then they should use it, whether it be for sending out MOT reminders or sending out sales promotions, there is no quicker, easier and direct route to customers."
