Uberhoods’ areodynamic form repels rain, and the silver lining offers amazing protection from the sun.

With the launch of The Uberhood Company web site: http://www.Uberhood.Co, bike riders throughout the United States can be cool, stay dry and keep riding – regardless of the weather. Available in four colors, (deep red, navy, hunter green and royal blue), the Uberhood is an elongated umbrella developed to provide year around protection from the elements for bike commuters and recreational riders. Designed to be mounted easily and securely on bicycle handlebars, the Uberhood can be opened in seconds when needed, and collapsed and folded out of the way when it’s not.
Uberhood was started by Sandy Luettgen, president of the company. “When my husband was on a business trip to China, he had seen umbrella-covered bikes slicing through traffic in the rain,” she explains. “He kept talking about how the riders were dry, comfortable, and moving, while car traffic was stalled. I was intrigued and inspired by the idea and started to look into introducing bike umbrellas in the United States.”
Luettgen’s husband is an engineer and helped to refine the original design. “The shape was elongated so wind resistance is low and the aerodynamic form repels rain,” she says. “But I wanted to see if we could alter the design, so it could collapse and be folded out of the way a little easier. Then we included a silver lining to reflect the sun for both long-distance and recreational riders, who may want to use their Uberhoods for sun protection and relief from the heat. Uberhood is amazing in the sun.”
The Uberhood measures 53” x 40” when extended for protection, folds completely when not needed, and weighs just 2.2 pounds. The Uberhood also provides added visibility for riders. “Especially when it’s raining; it’s hard for a driver to miss a big bright umbrella on a bicycle,” adds Luettgen.
Available online and through bicycle stores, the suggested retail price of each Uberhood is $79. Potential dealers, who are interested in wholesale pricing and information, can contact Luettgen directly at Sandy(at)Uberhood(dot)Co or via phone at 262-546-1501. Businesses and organizations can have their logo or message printed onto Uberhoods for promotional purposes, when they order a minimum of 25 Uberhoods.
