We stand together today as Syrian-Americans united against the tyranny of Bashar al-Assad and his murderous regime to support the people's revolution for freedom
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 12, 2012
Four Syrian American organizations announced today the formation of the American Syrian Coalition (ASC) in order to work in a unified and empowered voice to support the Syrian revolution for freedom. Members of the newly formed coalition are: the Syrian American Council, the Syrian Expatriates Organization, the Syria Emergency Task Force, and United for A Free Syria.
The ASC released a joint statement, which called for an intervention by an international coalition led by Turkey and the Arab League to halt the daily massacres by the Assad regime and the establishment of buffer zones to protect civilians and allow aid into the country. See the full statement here.
The international community has been ineffective in its efforts to stop the Assad regime from its crack down on protesters. UN Envoy Kofi Annan's six-point peace plan has proven to be a failure as the Assad regime escalated violence disregarding the plan's deadline it had previously promised to comply with.
In a joint statement, the four leaders of the coalition said:
"We stand together today as Syrian-Americans united against the tyranny of Bashar al-Assad and his murderous regime to support the people's revolution for freedom. After more than a year of uprising met with a bloody crack down that killed more than 13,000 Syrians, we call upon the international community to take immediate action and put an end to the massacres in Syria before it's too late."
United for a Free Syria is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting freedom, dignity, and democracy for the Syrian People.
