exploring opportunities with British Land for the development of surrounding lands
(PRWeb UK) February 4, 2011
Executive employment consultancy UK Knack Group’s managing director has announced that Sheffield’s Meadowhall shopping centre is on the verge of becoming one of Britain’s five largest.
British Land and London and Stamford are confirmed to be mulling over a 300,000 sq ft retail development on 74 acres of land next to the centre.
The extension would augment the Meadowhall retail space to make it the second largest in the UK after Metro Centre, although it’s not likely to be directly connected to the existing shopping complex.
But, UK Knack Group reports, there are concerns even though this would create several hundreds of new jobs. Even though the extension would create hundreds of jobs, parochialism still prevails. Will at least 50% of the visitors to the new developed extensions be locals? If not, there could be problems with the traffic and create congestion.
The waters are a little further muddied with considerations of entitlement. London and Stamford, under the control of Raymond Mould and Patrick Vaughan, acquired with the help of un-named “Middle Eastern” partners a 50% share of Meadowhall from British Land for 587.7 million pounds just two years ago.
That deal excluded the vacant land next door. London and Stamford, however, holds an option to acquire a stake in the site from British Land at what’s agreed to be “market value.” London and Stamford stated in its November interim results that it is: "exploring opportunities with British Land for the development of surrounding lands".
The Meadowhall environment is currently an exciting one in which to be working, and it’s expanding. UK Knack Group observes, “Throughout the centre, the range of job vacancies includes the likes of sales assistants, style advisors, catering assistants and chefs.”
