The Changing Face of Summer Holidays in the UK

With the credit crunch beginning to bite and more and more people looking for ways to save money wherever they can, taking a holiday in the UK has become even more popular. This year, record numbers of people are choosing to stay at holiday parks in order to enjoy the variety of different attractions and facilities that they offer.

While the weather in the UK is as unpredictable as ever, more and more families are taking a look at the rising price of foreign holidays and choosing to stay in the UK this year rather than head off to sunnier climes. This means that holiday companies like Haven, which runs some 35 parks around the UK and Butlin's are seeing record numbers of people choose to book a week or two on one of their parks.

For many people, the perception of these parks owes more to the 1980s TV show Hi-De-Hi than the modern reality, and the fact is that with all the investment that they have had over the last ten years, they now offer as much as any family could want in order to enjoy time together.

Some of the Haven caravan parks now offer an extensive range of activities including having their own golf courses and spa facilities on site. They also offer evening entertainment that features big names from the world of show biz and even children's clubs so that mum and dad can have a holiday too.

The main focus of a modern caravan park such as Kiln Park in Tenby in South Wales is to provide holidaymakers with all of the facilities that they need to enjoy a break without needing to leave the park behind. However the locations are carefully chosen in order to ensure that they provide plenty of things to see and do within easy reach of the park.

The accommodation is also improving. Haven have reportedly invested millions of pounds in modernising their caravan offering in the last few years to the extent that they now offer levels of luxury and facilities such as plasma screen televisions that would not be out of place in a very upmarket hotel. People looking for a slightly different experience can now try out one of the Yurts - traditional Mongolian tents - that are available at several of the larger holiday parks, and provide a unique camping experience.

For many people, the quality of the accommodation and facilities offered at caravan parks is secondary to the prices, and there are certainly some great offers still available on UK Holidays this summer including short breaks from as little as £299 on a self catering basis.
