More than 850 United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) members and guests are attending UNA-USA Members’ Day at the UN today in New York City. Attendees are participating in a day of dynamic and informative discussion in one of the grandest settings, UN General Assembly Hall. Members' Day participants are UNA-USA members, community leaders, academics and students, as well as representatives from think tanks and like-minded organizations, representing the largest gathering of United Nations advocates in America.

Members’ Day gives UNA-USA members exclusive access to the UN and its experts. A keynote address, “The UN in an Era of Global Instability,” will be delivered by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute, Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University. Participants will also hear from Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) who will talk about “The Importance of Strong U.S. Engagement at the UN.”
“This day gives our members a unique opportunity to attend special briefings on the most pressing issues on the UN agenda, full access to the UN and high-ranking officials, and an opportunity to network with others who share their passion for the UN,” said UNA-USA Executive Director Patrick Madden.

This year’s Members’ Day, which is being held in conjunction with the UNA-USA Southern New York Division, features panels on sustainable development, peacekeeping, and the Security Council. The theme for this year’s conference is “The UN in American Foreign Policy.” Guest speakers will shed light on the challenges and opportunities for the U.S. as part of the UN system.
