After getting their fill of Harry Potter, Spider Man and the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios this summer, a good way for guests to end their day in a more relaxing manner is to take in Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular – 100 years of Movie Memories. And spectacular it is. For those familiar with Disney nighttime entertainment, it is sort of a combination of Fantasmic (Hollywood Studios), Illuminations (EPCOT) and Wishes fireworks (Magic Kingdom) all in one.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the founding of Universal Studios. To commemorate this event, Universal Studios has put together this new nighttime entertainment tribute to 100 years of movie memories.

The nighttime display, which starts just after dark, takes place within the Universal Studios® lagoon. Scenes from various categories of Universal’s iconic films appear on cutting-edge waterfall screens, surrounded by synchronized fountains and pyrotechnics. The presentation is narrated by actor Morgan Freeman with familiar musical scores as background from the movies being displayed.

Representatives from Travel & Tours Unlimited, Inc. recently experienced the Cinematic Spectacular Dining Experience, which combines the nighttime show with dinner at Lombard’s Seafood Grille. Lombard’s is a full-service restaurant located right on the edge of the lagoon, in an area of the Studios that is a re-creation of San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. While the dining experience in the restaurant was good, the best part was outside on the deck of the restaurant that afforded a prime viewing area for the show along with dessert.

But be warned – you can get wet from the mist from the fountains during the grand finale. Note that, with dinner reservations starting at 4PM, guests can have dinner, leave the restaurant to visit some attractions and then return to be seated for the show. Prices for the dining experience, including access to the restaurant deck for viewing the show, is $44.99 for adults and $12.99 for children.
