UConn Up for Most Vegan Friendly College

Massage School San Diego has named the University of Connecticut as one of its “step forward” award winners this week, in honor of its recognition from Peta2 for its vegan-friendly dining options.

In honor of its recent recognition by Peta2 as one of the most vegan-friendly colleges in the U.S., Massage School San Diego, which promotes raw foods vegan, healthy living and massage therapy schools in San Diego, has honored the University of Connecticut with one of its “step forward” awards. Massage School San Diego gives its "step forward" awards regularly to organizations and individuals that make waves in the healthy living and massage therapy industries.

Peta2 annually names the most vegan-friendly college campus in the United States. This year, the University of Connecticut, based in Storrs, Connecticut, is one of the top schools being considered. UConn’s dining halls offer vegan food items like vegan French apple squares, vegan chicken pot pie, vegan ravioli caprese, sweet and sour tempeh, and more. Peta2 chooses its nominees based on student votes and the quality and variety of vegan food offerings on campus. There are currently 32 other schools in the running.

Peta2 is an animal rights group that works to promote the humane treatment of animals. Started in 2002, it is the youth-oriented branch of PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Peta2 does not support using animals for food, clothing, experimentation or entertainment.

University of Connecticut is a public university located in Storrs, Connecticut. It has six campuses and more than 30,000 students. UConn was established in 1881 and was originally called the Storrs Agricultural School. The school is a member of the Big East Conference and boasts athletic teams in football, hockey, soccer, basketball, baseball, golf, track, golf, swimming and more. UConn’s teams are called the Huskies, and their colors are blue and white.

Storrs is a designated area of Mansfield, Connecticut, located in the Eastern part of the state. It has an estimated population of just under 11,000 people and was named for the founders of the University of Connecticut, Charles and Augustus Storrs.

Connecticut is a state in the Eastern part of the United States, along the Atlantic Coast. It is considered a part of the New England region. It has a total population of 3.5 million and a land area of more than 5,000 square miles. It lies adjacent to the Long Island Sound. Connecticut was the fifth state to join the Union, gaining admission in 1788.

Massage School San Diego has recognized the University of Connecticut with one of its “step forward” awards as it competes to be named Peta2’s most vegan-friendly college.
