Hip-hop artist UnLearn has released the video for his first official single “Hunger Games (Black Hoodie Rap).” The single, produced by Deeda Tree, is featured on his debut album “The Wake Up Call” which will be released in 2013. The video is available for view on YouTube and was shot on the West Side of Chicago during protests about the growing murders numbers in the city.

“We wanted to do something organic, something that didn't come across preachy, but genuine and heartfelt. I wanted to walk the streets where young men were dying in droves to see the pain for myself and channel that pain into the video and into my music,” says UnLearn.

“Hunger Games (Black Hoodie Rap)” was written during the height of the Trayvon Martin tragedy when people started saying, "I am Trayvon Martin.” Instead of participating in the movement, UnLearn went against it because he refused to accept the symbolism of being Trayvon Martin, another young black man shot dead in these streets.

UnLearn is an emcee, poet, actor, activist from Washington Heights, New York. He is known for his ability to grab listeners attention with a charismatic delivery inspired by messages of deep lyrical content. Using his experiences coupled with situations in urban America, he articulates the emotions, triumphs, and tragedies of the American Dream into his music.

Since high school, UnLearn has participated in talent shows, open mics, live performances, and has sat in late night studio sessions with artists like Fat Joe and the late Big Pun. In 2003, he joined the Lyricist Lounge Club Tour where he opened for the group Boot Camp Click, Young Bloodz, Dead Prez, Killa Mike, Killa Priest, and Big Daddy Kane.

In 2005, he moved to the Bay Area, California after being evicted from his New York apartment. This experience allowed him to develop a new maturity in his music. During this time, he released the mixtape “Confessions of A Dangerous Mind” which defined UnLearn’s sound and was featured in hip-hop magazines and blogs.

To date, UnLearn has worked with Skyzoo, Sir Michael Rocks of The Cool Kids, Sha Stimuli, Domingo, Wordsmith, and Donny Goines. He has a weekly podcast and wants to create his own niche in hip-hop as the next great thinker. His brand is built based on combining the thoughts of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King with Tupac, Nas, and KRS-One. Keep up with all UnLearn updates by following him on Twitter.
