Updata Advisors, Inc., a leading investment bank for the information technology industry, announced today that Joel Strauch has been promoted to Partner. Strauch leads Updata's infrastructure software practice and most recently advised SwapDrive, a leading provider of online backup and storage solutions, in its acquisition by Symantec. He has also recently led a buy-side engagement for Versata Enterprises which has resulted in three acquisitions over the last six months. Since joining Updata, Strauch has also played a key role in advising other clients of the firm including Diversified Software, Critical Path, Proxima Technology and others.

Strauch joined Updata Advisors in 2005 bringing significant experience both in investment banking and in advising high growth technology companies, having completed more than 50 transactions with aggregate value in excess of $4 billion. Prior to Updata he held a number of senior level investment banking positions at technology focused investment banking firms including Katalyst, First Albany Corporation, H.C. Wainwright & Co., and Alex. Brown & Sons. Over his twelve years with these firms, Strauch advised technology clients on mergers and acquisitions as well as public and private equity financings. He also spent several years with Edison Mission Energy arranging project financing for international independent power projects.
