Uptown Surge is a Columbian born, New York City raised hip-hop artist and songwriter. He discovered freestyle rap at 13 and fell in love with the genre. His musical style combines street rap, conscious thinking and commercial appeal to create a versatile sound. Uptown is influenced by 90’s hip-hop artists such as 2pac and the Wu-Tang Clan. He started out his career as part of the group D-XiFR and later For Da Hood before embarking on a solo career.
Uptown has released three singles off the "Kingdom of the Poor" mixtape including “Up All Night.” The club single features upcoming singer Red Wine and has received play by DJs in New York. You can view the music video directed by Pierre Rueda on YouTube.
“Kingdom of the Poor” is now available for download and contains original music combined with samples from various genres. The mixtape depicts Uptown’s life in the ghetto with a focus on the social problems that come with living in that type of environment.
