the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) March 26, 2007
USA Wireless Solutions is taking their charging solutions to the next level through the production of chargers that meet RoHS, ENERGY STAR and CEC standards.
“Protecting the environment is a global initiative and USA Wireless is committed to do its part to ensure that charging devices we produce are environmentally efficient,” says Jeff Infusino, President and CEO of USA Wireless Solutions. “It is imperative that we as a company take a proactive approach in addressing this global concern. About 1.5 billion external power adapters are in use in the United States. In the U.S. alone, more efficient adapters have the potential to save over 5 billion kWh of energy and prevent the release of more than 4 million tons of greenhouse emissions which is the equivalent of taking 800,000 cars off the road! We have several chargers that currently meet RoHS, ENERGY STAR and CEC standards. By the end of 2007 all of our charging products will meet these standards”.
RoHS stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This Directive bans the placing on the European Union market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. Europe’s RoHS Directive and regulations came into force on July 1st 2006. The influence of this directive on other countries and global markets has already begun.
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. As of January 1st, 2006 ENERGY STAR made effective their new specifications for External Power Supplies used for products such as camcorders, mobile phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, PDA’s, and more.
California Energy Commission (CEC)
The California Energy Commission is the state's primary energy policy and planning agency. Leveraging the efficiency standards requirements set by ENERGY STAR the State of California enacted on January 1st, 2007 a minimum efficiency and maximum energy consumption requirement for external power supplies sold in the State with laptop computers, mobile phones, printers, print servers, scanners, PDA’s, and digital cameras.
