As the housing market across the United States begins to recover, many home buyers still need a break. One option thousands of buyers now find themselves exploring is the 100% financing option backed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The USDA Rural Development mortgage loan option allows qualified home buyers to find a home in an approved area and avoid a popular stumbling block: a down payment.
According to recent USDA figures, AmeriFirst is the number 1 Michigan RD lender (financing more than 1200 RD mortgages in 2012 and more than 500 so far in 2013), and in the top 1% in the nation. Out of 2,492 lenders in the U.S. AmeriFirst Home Mortgage is the 12th largest RD mortgage lender by units in 2012, and number 9 in 2013 as of this release.
“Rural Development fits into the AmeriFirst footprint well,” Co-founder and CEO David N. Gahm says. “Yes we have branches in the Cincinnatis and Indianapolises of the world. But we’re also in places with rural areas like Kalamazoo, Michigan; Fort Wayne, Indiana and Northwest Ohio. We’re able to service the more rural communities well.”
AmeriFirst Home Mortgage co-founder and President Mark A. Jones attributes this accomplishment to the expert staff in AmeriFirst branches across the region. “Attaining this honor is not an accident, nor is it luck. This is based on intentional efforts by a very hard working, knowledgeable team of professionals.”
Under the Guaranteed Loan program, USDA Rural Development guarantees loans made by private sector lenders like AmeriFirst Home Mortgage. A loan guaranteed through RD means that, should the individual borrower default on the loan, RD will pay the private financier for the loan. More than 150,000 families across the country used an RD loan to buy a home in 2012.
In May, 2012 the USDA sent officials to the Kalamazoo area to roll out a rural development refinance program with AmeriFirst as a pilot member. AmeriFirst and USDA have a long running professional relationship helping local home buyers and homeowners with this zero-down mortgage option.
